Taihu Lake Whitefish
The Taihu Lake whitefish is also called chub, because its head and tail are upwards. Its body is narrow, long and flat. It has thin bones and scales and beams with silver light. It is a kind of commercially predatory fish. At present, the fish is not farmed and it is mainly got by natural fishing. Its meat is delicate and fine with much fat under scales, much like reeves shad. It is a famous and precious fish of the Taihu Lake. Whitefishes mostly grow in open waters of the Taihu Lake and live on small fishes and shrimps. The whitefish is a kind of self-reproduction fish in the Taihu Lake. Whitefishes can be caught in four seasons and the fishing output tops in June and July as the fish enters the period of laying eggs.
